Sleeping Beauty and the Beast

The Portland Trailblazers have clearly diminished their image as the “Jail Blazers”. Despite losing their number one draft pick, Greg Oden, for the entire season, the young squad has faired well in his absence. Oden was expected to come in this year and be a big time player for the Blazers, but unfortunately had to get a season-ending knee operation before he even touched the NBA court. But have no fear, Roy is here. Brandon Roy said, “Hey, I can handle the load until the big man gets back”, and he has done just that and more. He is up in points (2) and assists (2) while shooting the same FG percentage (45%). Even though those stats do not seem like much, Roy has gained not only confidence in playing, but he has earned and accepted leadership of his young team.

The Blazers,(25-17), have already shown this year they can compete with the elite of the West and the NBA as a whole. Only time will tell how Oden and Roy will co-exist. But, if they gel how people think they will, this team will have a super diaper dandy duo for the future; then add in Outlaw and Aldridge…scary!
